The future is wireless: the future is here for MultiChoice customers

Consumer demand for a life without wires is a key challenge that occupies us at ARRIS. We’ve become accustomed to an untethered world. 20 years of Wi-Fi and wireless innovations have certainly seen to that.

Driving home the point even further: our last Consumer Entertainment Index revealed three quarters of those aged 16-24 want to watch TV anywhere.

We’re therefore excited when we can share how we’ve helped even more people go wireless. This is now the case for customers of MultiChoice, which has launched its latest DStv WiFi Connector solution. This gives DStv customers in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa the ability to enjoy connected services such as video on demand with DStv Catch-Up Plus, Remote Recording and ShowMax, South Africa’s premier streaming service, through their existing decoder, wherever it is in the home.

The new DStv WiFi Connector

The new DStv WiFi Connector

In simpler terms, it means the convenience to connect your TV experience in any room in the home, without the need to run cables.

We’re seeing greater demand from consumers who wish to unlock the added value that comes from conveniently connecting their decoders or set-top to the internet. This solution is designed to perform in today’s digital home: simply attaching the sleek USB stick to the DStv Explora opens up a whole new world of content to MultiChoice customers without the need for an Ethernet cable.

The new DStv Wi-Fi Connector, developed by ARRIS, features the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology to provide reliable HD quality video and backwards compatibility for older Wi-Fi networks.

This latest partnership reflects the strengthening of our relationship with MultiChoice, which spans almost a decade. MultiChoice launched its first HD PVR with ARRIS in 2008. ARRIS has also supplied the DStv Explora since 2013

MultiChoice wins big with Stuff Gadget of the Year Award

Picture4Congratulations go out this week to our long-term partner, MultiChoice, after its DStv Explora decoder was named TV Gadget of the Year 2016 by Stuff South Africa.

Leading consumer technology publication Stuff called the DStv Explora ‘hard to beat’. It trumped its competition including Google Chromecast and Xbox One S to take the top spot.

ARRIS worked with MultiChoice to develop and manufacture the DStv Explora in South Africa, which launched last year and Stuff described as ‘iconic’- a culmination of a near decade-long relationship between our two teams. It allows subscribers to enjoy a wide range of content in HD, including on-demand shows to stream or download.

Together we have introduced subscribers all over South Africa to their new favorite shows. And we’ve given them the ability to watch them when they want. We’ll continue to provide great entertainment experiences to them in the future.

Addressing Broadband & Video for Africa at TV Connect Africa

We’re in Cape Town this week at TV Connect Africa (Hall 4 Stand #TV19) where we are demonstrating our vision of the future for broadband and video.

We’re showing our broad range of set-tops, from cost-conscious devices for low ARPU markets to high-end UHD media servers, for cable, IP, terrestrial and satellite access.  This includes the recently launched DStv Explora 2 decoder with HEVC, the fourth generation of HD PVR devices that ARRIS and MultiChoice have launched together, making it easier for customers to access MultiChoice’s growing on-demand services.

Visitors can meet our experts to understand the migration path to ABR IP video delivery, including high-density HEVC encoding.  And how we’ve optimized Wi-Fi to deliver high quality wireless video to all corners of the home, as well as outside the home, to communities, schools, hospitals and stadiums.

Come and see us at Stand TV19 in Hall 4!
