We just spent three exciting days at the ABTA Expo & Conference 2014 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, showcasing our advanced video solutions to Brazilian providers. This year’s gathering centered around discussions of consumption habits among the nearly 15M Brazilian pay TV customers who, like their counterparts in other geographies, are reaching for more personalized and ubiquitous content. ARRIS experts led quite a few of these discussions and highlighted the implications for service providers: namely, the challenge of scaling today’s networks and CPE to meet the growing demand for increasingly complex service delivery. A case in point was pay TV provider Multiplay, which we announced this week, is the first operator to offer the new ARRIS DCX525e set-top, delivering efficient HD services today and supporting tomorrow’s IP video delivery. Our experts’ presentations dove into a range of other subjects, including:
- Dr. Ayham Al Banna’s (Systems Architect, CTO’s Office) presentation on “Network Migration in the DOCSIS 3.1 ERA”
- Carlos Cunha’s (Staff Solutions Architect) talk on “Cross Media (Retargeting) Advertising Revenue Potential”
- Gary Cunha’s (Sr. Director, Product Lifecycle Management, Assurance Team) discussion of “Wi-Fi Connection Uptime & Customer Service”
- Peter Grimes’ (Director of Marketing, Caribbean and Latin America) review of evolving content consumption trends from the 2014 ARRIS Consumer Entertainment Index
- Mauricio Janisset’s (Staff Solutions Architect) presentation on “DOCSIS 3.1 CCAP Migration in Brazil”
If you couldn’t make the show, check out some of the photos taken from inside our booth.
See you in Brazil next year!
This week we’ve been at the Cable Tech Show in Tokyo, Japan which attracted 9,500 attendees over two days at the Tokyo International Forum.
With 28 million households in Japan (that’s 50% of households overall) with a cable TV connection, served by 350 operators, the Japan cable market is one of the most exciting globally.
Our booth was buzzing for the two day event, with much interest in the ARRIS access technology portfolio and Cable WiFi solutions, as well as the globally successful ARRIS E6000™ Converged Edge Router with DOCSIS 3.1 demonstration. We also announced an exciting deal with Izukyu Cable who will be the first operator in Japan to deploy a converged edge router with the ARRIS E6000.
ARRIS experts Kaz Tomomatsu, Ray Bontempi, and Rich Peske all took part in the technical seminar program, sharing views on DOCSIS 3.1, access technologies and video processing respectively.

This week, ARRIS and hundreds of cable providers are commemorating the NCTC’s 30th Anniversary in Kansas City, Missouri, at NCTC’s The Independent Show.
Today’s consumers are reaching for more personalized and ubiquitous content experiences, and it’s become clear that this is a challenge for service providers of all sizes.
Our 2014 Consumer Entertainment Index shed some light on the pervasiveness of these trends:
- 93% watch Broadcast TV each week; 80% watch 1-5 hours a week
- Binge-viewing is at an all-time high, with 74% binging
- 70% of consumers use an online subscription or streaming service at least once a week; however, 60% encounter problems with it
And at NCTC, ARRIS is sharing expertise and solutions targeted to our Tier 2 and Tier 3 providers to address this new direction in content delivery.
In the last week, we collaborated with Wurl, Inc. to launch ARRIS Market—a new open platform for cable operators to combine over-the-top (OTT) content with traditional programming on ARRIS set-tops. We announced new agreements with Cable TV of East Alabama and Comporium to deploy our CCAP-capable E6000 Converged Edge Router, future-proofing their networks to support the evolution in data, video, and voice experiences. And we expanded on last year’s agreement with Sling Media, bringing Service Electric and Comporium onto the ARRIS MS4000 platform, powered by Sling technology, to support each provider’s Whole Home Solution customers.
Join us for the celebration this week in Kansas City! And please stop by our booths (#309 and 311) for demonstrations of the above solutions.
Our E6000™ Converged Edge Router gives service providers around the world new levels of network capacity and efficiency—a competitive advantage in delivering today’s services and the scale for driving tomorrow’s video and broadband experiences.
This week, we announced that Cable TV of East Alabama and Comporium will deploy the E6000 to their respective subscriber bases. The E6000’s footprint covers a growing footprint of millions of live consumers.
The Motley Fool called the E6000 “a bigger success than anyone predicted.” We’ve seen demand from operators grow by leaps and bounds since we launched the platform last December. That’s due in large part to its capability to realize incremental revenue for providers of all sizes—enabling more operators to take advantage of new efficiencies, while offering a customizable pathway to future services.
On a larger stage, that’s what ARRIS’s end-to-end platform is doing for today’s providers. It combines our legacy of leadership in video and broadband with solutions that span the entire content delivery chain—from the headend to the home. Our E6000 is just one of the ways that we’re collaborating with our customers to invent the future.

We just announced that LIWEST will be using our E6000™ Converged Edge Router (CER) to enable future high-speed broadband services of up to 1Gbps to its subscribers in Austria.
The deployment makes LIWEST the latest operator in a growing group of global leaders that have selected ARRIS and the E6000 to future-proof content delivery. Research firm Infonetics recently named ARRIS the leader in this industry-wide shift to the Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP), citing the sector’s 177% revenue growth and ARRIS’s global lead in the first quarter of 2014.
LIWEST will use the E6000 CER in tandem with our TG682 cable modem/gateway, which is already widely deployed to its subscriber base. This IP infrastructure allows LIWEST to achieve smarter, more efficient networks that can scale to tomorrow’s super-fast broadband speeds and the demands of new, advanced services.
